HASH HISTORY - HASH RUN #1589 - Nostra's Dumbass Virgin Hare Run

About 25 hashers showed up on what seemed like a balmy 12 degree day considering recent weather for the virgin hare run set by NOSTRADUMBASS at Maple Prairie Park on the southwest side of Madison. Before the start, NOSTRA provided some extended instructions that he read from a script, revealing that he did not have assistance from an experienced co-hare. Everyone initially found this disturbing, then they thought back to recent runs set by highly experienced hares... The trail headed onto streets and soon through urban winter shiggy. And by "urban winter shaggy" we mean through deep snow across what would in the summertime be neighborhood green space. NOSTRA did a tremendous job of finding this kind of terrain since it seemed like the whole run was through knee-deep snow. The first beer check was served from the back of a van managed by NOSTRA's friend Just Mike. It was on a street with enough traffic for hashers to annoy drivers by standing in the middle of the street and giving the universal sign for "Hey! It's cool!" by smiling and pointing at their beers as they blocked traffic. This once again proved that not everyone finds us as cute as we find ourselves. After the beer check, the trail was more of the same except for a few frozen creek crossings navigated safely by everyone except NOSTRA and STROKES who both broke through the ice. The second beer check was in the huge Prairie Park just before it got dark. Several hashers revolted after this beer check and took streets back to the start and foregoing the third beer check. Most of the pack followed the trail to a third beer check on a nearby street as dusk began to settle. Did I mention that the trail was a little long? Actually, several hashers commented that it would be a great route... for a summer run. Eventually the pack broke into several groups and everyone did a survival run/walk back to the start where they found maps to NOSTRA's house for the On-On. The hares served plenty of beer and Sloppy Joes, and the difficulties of the trail faded from memory. Highlights of ceremonies included the virgin hares NOSTRA and Just Mike, a visitor/new Madison resident hasher DVDICK, several newboot hare friends who didn't run but abided the hash shenanigans, all the runners with dogs - there were more dogs than women on the run, and RUDE YARD leading the hash ladies in the "Roll Back Your Foreskin for Me" portion of the Foreskin Song.

Congratulations to NOSTRADUMBASS on doing a great job with his virgin hare run without the help of an experienced hasher to f#&k it up!!!
