HISTORY- RUN # 1597 - The PFYOB (Pay for Your Own Beer) Run

Storm clouds gathered and a great emptiness fell upon the hash calendar when the lords of darkness revealed that no one was available to take this run date. Would this end the more than 30-year continuous streak of highly successful events??? Did this mean that the very fabric of the space/time and run/beer continuums would unravel??? Would inter-dimensional forces forever stop the flow of cephalic endorphins and beer??? NO!!! NOT ON THIS DAY!!! NOT AT THIS TIME!!! Two heroic young champions, their sinewy muscles rippling with anticipation, stepped forward to put an end to the howls of despair and the gnashing of beerless tongues. STIFFY and BEERNUTS announced they would host a "no hash cash, pay for yourself" hash with a trail, a beer check and an On-On at a place with good beer and food. About 25 hashers, including several seldom seens and new boots, showed up for this run that started at the shopping center on East Washington Ave. near Johnson St. where it was announced that this would be live hare. The well-marked trail headed further east from the start as it wound through the nearby neighborhood. The pack was slow to start but then broke into an all out run when the FRBs figured out the trail. The pack got spread out at times, but regrouped to look for marks at several points when the trail seemed lost. The trail eventually arced to the north, across East Wash near the pedestrian bridge, and to a beer check at Washington Manor Park in SHOW ME's neighborhood. After a good dousing of beer, the pack continued further into this area, onto the bike trail and through the familiar "jazz run hole in the fence" and across the little league baseball area. There was again much milling as the FRBs once again lost the trail. The pack had been out over 90 minutes so everyone expected the route to head back toward the start. Instead, they were slightly disappointed to find the trail crossing under Packers Ave and heading west on Aberg. Spirits were lifted though, when everyone realized they were heading toward Wiggie's bar. Hopes were dashed when there was no BC to be found. The trail continued past this, around the Oscar Meyer complex, and back across Packers Ave., through Demitral field, and on, and on back to Dudleys for the On-On. Nearly everyone ordered food and pitchers of various microbrew beers, and after a certain level of satisfaction was achieved, an abbreviated version of ceremonies broke out. The hares were awarded for their over-zealous effort on the long trail, but got back at everyone when they pointed out that the pack missed an alcohol check when they shortcut around the Oscar Meyer plant. Several new boots and seldom seens included friends of LORENA and NOSTRA. There was also an effort to rename NOSTRADUMBASS to NOSEINHERCROTCH but that failed. Here's a giant thanks to STIFFY (or special thanks to a giant stiffy?) and BEERNUTS for taking this run on short notice!!! THE END
