HASH HISTORY - HASH RUN #1617 And PAAVO - The 12th Annual Paavorgasmic Weekend
Several hashers arrived a day early for some kayaking near Three Lakes before heading to Hurley where a significant number of Madison hashers gathered for the start of Paavo 2008. After checking in at race headquarters and settling the relay teams, many headed to Taconelli's Restaurant in Ironwood for the prerace dinner. Some finished dinner in time to make the Paavo torch lighting ceremony in downtown Hurley. Others made it later to "light their own torches" for the traditional PrePaavo Pub Crawl. The Slower Than Molasses team were the last to register just before the closing deadline. As usual, the crawl wisely began at the upper end of Silver Street and proceeded downhill through every low bar, dive and honky-tonk in the city. Early in the event, some of the runners who expected to get up before noon sneaked away. Fortunately they were replaced by others who showed up in town a little late. The highlight of the evening (strip joints) was a reappearance of the athletic stripper who did such magic on the pole that she didn't need to take her clothes off. Otherwise the strip joints were given a 3.7 on the DIEGO Petermeter. As usual hashers ran frantically from bar to bar so as not to miss anything. After a thorough inspection of each strip joint, the crawlers trickled away and the night ended at a reasonable time around 2:00 AMish. The next morning, over 30 hashers prepared to engage the Paavo race course (see results chart below) along with hasher spectators. The finish chute was on Silver Street and the weather was mild and sunny on the race course. Many headed to Ricci Park for the post race awards picnic where ULTRA SMUT, EARLY CUMMER, BUSHWHACKER and the Follow the Spaniel relay team picked up race hardware. Eventually everyone was off to Three Lakes for the Paavorgasmic Saturday afternoon and evening at the COL's and ICUF's lakefront cabin. The weather was perfect for the hash to lounge on the shores of Round Lake and the hashers made the best of it by puttering with their tents and paddling their kayaks. After many arrivals, much setting up of tents and a large gathering of kayaks, the beer began to flow and dinner preparations were underway. The weather cleared up and it was a beautiful evening for a trip on the party barge before ICUF served a fantastic cajun shrimp boil dinner with assistance from SLOW HAND. Ceremonies were conducted after dinner and highlighted the visitors from Atlanta, GOATIE and the Atlanteans and the visitors from Virginia, BUSH WHACKER and BLOW PHISH. There were also a huge number of "Paavo Virgins" to celebrate along with a few awards for those with race hardware. Finally the DFLs AH SHIT and WORLD CLASS KNOCKERS got awarded once AH was awakened from his nap. They drove up Saturday morning. Later, another round of Campfire Confessions was conducted. This involves everyone getting up to say something to entertain the proverbial "peanut gallery" of drunken hashers. As most were huddled around the campfire, there were some dashes between the sauna and a dip in the lake, but no "annual naked run to assault the neighbors" this year. This night also ended at a reasonable time around 2:00 AMish. Sunday morning started with lots of coffee and a great breakfast including bagels with sausage, cream cheese spread and several exotic cheeses. Then it was time for the Running Bare Triathalon. Most of the group headed off on the three mile run to the point just across the lake from the cabin. A handful of hashers swam back while others got a ride on the party barge. And once again another tradition is born on Paavo Weekend with the attempts to break into the COL's car to free the dogs and the keys locked in the vehicle. After much picking up, everyone left to return home. THANKS AGAIN TO ICUF AND THE COL FOR A GREAT PAAVORGASM!!!!!
