HASH HISTORY - HASH RUN #1644 - The Up Nort Weekend - Rescue 911

About 20 hashers and just the COL's dogs attended The Up Nort Weekend at the ICUF and COL MUSTARD northern retreat. LIKES IT, MONKEY, PIP, ABR, RIDES, SLOWHAND, HALF CRACKED, STIFFY, MS D'ERECTION, Just Jen, HIGH STOOL, TRAILER, WILL HO, JELLY BOOBS, ROAD BEATER, STROKES, THREE HOLER, SHOW ME, NUT FARMER, and of course the COLONEL had a great time with skiing, beering, eating, beering, sauna sweating, beering, wining, eating, sleeping and performing various naked events. ICUF had to work and was in Alaska, but was also present in the form of four life sized face masks made from photos that were included in many of the weekend events. The weather was great during the daytimes and slipped into single digits each night. The newly added upper suite on the sauna building created accommodations for the larger crowd. SLOW HAND joined the COL early in the week but things really got started Thursday evening ABR and PIP arrived and with much fanfair embarked on a mild sauna, shortly thereafter joined by Stiffy and Half Cracked. All enjoyed the evening. On Friday it was off to Ski Brule at midmorning for a great day of going really fast. Half Cracked elected to stay behind with the Col. and ABR, for reasons that escaped us. The mighty speeders stopped for Bloody Mary's and darn good nacho's at BBT's in Eagle River before joining the assembling Hashers later Friday. As other hashers arrived the beer and sauna both started to overflow until the traditional freezing of the beer tap. Around mid evening a rescue call was placed to the cabin from LIKES IT in the final expected vehicle, ROAD BEATER's van. The four hashers in the van had made it as far as Rhinelander but the van broke down. The soon to be heroic HIGH STOOL had just arrived at the cabin and was "beer pressured" into making the rescue trip since he was the only driver sober enough to still drive. All passengers were rescued - just like that airliner that landed in the Hudson River - due to HIGH STOOL's heroism. The COL served a great chili dinner and after a reasonable amount of hoopla, everyone went to sleep. Saturday started with a fine breakfast before most went cross country skiing at either Razor Back or Anvil Lake. Everyone was expected back by 3:30 or 4:00 for the planned hash run. The Anvil Lake crowd didn't return until 5:30 or so due to another rescue event. SHOW ME and WILL HO were the last skiers on the trail and missed the turn to the parking lot. They skied on for another two hour loop before returning. When JELLY and NUTFARMER realized the other two were way overdue, the second rescue effort of the weekend was launched. NUT tried to catch them on skate skis while communicating with JELLY in one word cell phone calls due to bad connections. Everyone eventually made it back to the cabin where the COL was about to set a live hare naked hash run. While the pack warmed up in the sauna the COL took off (naked) soon to be followed by a mostly naked pack of hashers. There was much milling around in the dark before 3-HOLER found a back check on the road. The pack spread out and only LIKES IT and NUTFARMER completed the whole trail. Others headed back to the sauna after looking for a rather long time. The actual trail headed onto the lake through thigh deep snow where the hare left anatomically correct marks in the soft snow on the surface. LIKES IT was able to stay on top of the crusted snow but the COL and NUT both had bloody scrapes from going through. After a rousing round of ceremonies in which ICUF was included by phone and face mask pictures, another great dinner was served. Part of the pack played various card games well into the night and everyone eventually made it to sleep. After breakfast on Sunday everyone headed home. Thanks to the COL and ICUF for another great up nort winter weekend!!
